PS3 or XBox360?

- July 16 -

I have a Wii. I like my Wii. I play my Wii when I can but I’m cheap and I’m waiting for Nintendo to release a value line of games for the console. I hate buying games used because I like supporting the developers who make the games I play but I also have to admit I’m on a budget and I just can’t drop $50 for a new game unless it is really something special. I know some Wii games are being price dropped and I’m slowly starting to add games to my library but I tend to hold out until games have been around awhile before I buy…usually.

Why do I wait? I have been burnt too many times on pre-orders of games that I thought would be great and were duds….Devil May Cry 2 anybody? I’m also getting older and I’m finding that I can delay my satisfaction when it comes to media purchases. What this means is that my media dollar goes farther if I’m willing to wait.

What else do I play? Up to this point I’ve been fine with my Wii, Steam, and all of the PS2 games that I haven’t finished or are still sitting unwrapped next to my console. The reality is that I don’t have a lot of gaming time and my DS has seen the most use of all of my consoles. Advance Wars is basically Crack.

Now I am ready to take the plunge into one of the “next gen” consoles and I’m stuck.

The PS3 was a lock for my home theater up until a few days ago. It’s got good games, most exclusives are becoming less exclusive, and I like God of War which is one of the few franchises I’ll take the time to play start to finish (DMC being the other).

Then, Microsoft went and announced the whole Netflix collaboration.

I watch A LOT of streaming Netflix. I have a home theater with a projector and PC attached to it and the streaming Netflix service has dominated my movie watching leisure time for the past few months. I’m currently addicted to Weeds….I’m only on season 2 so NO SPOILERS! Yeah, I know I need a gold account in addition to my Netflix account but that’s fine. I know the 360 doesn’t play Blue-Ray but I am not buying into a disc based HD format anytime soon so I don’t really care. Streaming is the future now for me and 480p DVDs are fine for the near term…did I mention I have FiOS?

The other plus with owning a 360 is the large number of budget games available…because you know, I’m cheap. The $299 20GB seams like a good deal at the moment since I only plan on downloading some games over XBLA…Steam is my preferred download portal.

So I’m stuck. What do I do???? I’m sure that I’ll eventually end up with both consoles but that won’t be for awhile. I’m thinking it’s 360 now, PS3 later but I’m easily influenced. Thoughts?

**Quick note…XNA rules. I have access to a few 360s at work for XNA development but at home I really just want a system to relax with and play games so I’m not counting development environments in this battle royale.
