Data caps also discourage competition. If you are an ISP that also happens to own a content creation and/or distribution mechanism (you know who you are) then it is also just a nice coincidence that data caps keep your users from getting all their content outside your walled-garden from the likes of Hulu and Netflix.
There needs to be an ISP that operates like a data utility. The ISP would provide a pipe and nothing else. The ISP could even charge by the byte if they wanted to do so. If the ISP really wants to shake things up they could operate as a non-profit or some type of collective where any revenues above operating costs are either donated to charity or returned to the users as a refund at the end of the year.
Definitely getting this album. It’s new but feels like an old friend.
